With four decades of trial and appellate experience, Mr. Brot has successfully handled high conflict and complex cases from inception through settlement or trial involving all aspects of family law, including child custody, relocation, domestic violence, support, property, complex financial issues, and paternity. As a highly experienced family law attorney with a strong litigation background, he is tenacious in the representation of clients both in the courtroom and at the negotiating table.

Mr. Brot has held a variety of leadership positions within the organized Bar, including President of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Chair of the Trial Lawyers Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and Chair of the Family Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He has served as a Trustee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association since 2016, and as a member of the LACBA Counsel for Justice Board of Directors.

He is a member of the American Bar Association, California Lawyers Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, Beverley Hills Bar Association and San Fernando Valley Bar Association, and is a member of the Family Law Section within each such organization.

Mr. Brot has also lectured extensively for various local and national continuing legal education providers, especially on topics of family law and trial advocacy. He has often appeared as a media commentator on family law issues and high profile divorces. In addition, Mr. Brot continues to be involved in the development of the law as a Sustaining Member of the American Law Institute.

Mr. Brot has been recognized for excellence by his peers, and received the Spencer Brandeis Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Family Law Section. He was named 2019 Person of the Year by the Metropolitan News-Enterprise. He is recognized in Lawdragon‘s 2020 edition of “500 Leading Family Lawyers” in the U.S., and in Best Lawyers in America (Family Law). He has been designated a Southern California Super Lawyer in Family Law each year from 2005 to the present, and was named among the Top 100 Southern California Super Lawyers in multiple years. He was elected to membership in the prestigious Chancery Club of Los Angeles, and is rated AV Preeminent by the Martindale-Hubbell Registry.

Mr. Brot received a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctorate degree cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. He is admitted to practice throughout California in all State and U.S. Federal District Courts, the United States Court of Appeals – 9th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
